Meet Your Trainer - Lukas

Lukas Grey is the sole founder and owner of Canines Rated ARF LLC functioning in Johnson City, Tennessee and the surrounding Tri-Cities area. What started as a childhood obsession led to a lifelong passion for working with animals, specifically dogs. As a kid, Lukas grew up in a family of hunters raising hounds and curs trained on raccoons and squirrels; in 2020, the childhood passion, college income, and one reactive rescue dog (Shoebox) led a major career shift into the dog industry.

Working in dog daycares, boarding facilities, and municipal shelters laid a strong foundation for animal behavior and the desire to teach others valuable communication and understanding that isn’t given in your pet-ownership manual. When not out playing, practicing, or investing a little too much time in classes with his dog Retro, Lukas can be found as the functioning dog attendant at the Sullivan County Animal Shelter working to help anxious, fearful, and/or reactive dogs better prepared for their future homes.

  • Refined and Retired.

Zero is the documented start of my passion and love for dogs especially herding breeds. Now at 13, he lives with my grandparents in Middle Tennessee, but may make an appearance or two every once in a while.

  • Rehabbing Reactivity

Shoebox is my shelter rescue who certainly had more spunk than any of us bargained for. I adopted Shoe in 2020 at the end of the lockdown. What once was an aggressive resource guarder, anxiety monster, and dog reactive little f…friend, soon became the reason I am a trainer today. Now he serves as my puppy socializer and great distraction dog to work around client dogs.

  • My sanity in a furry package.

Retro is my walking billboard and court jester all in one. He doesn’t know a bad day and any time he gets the chance to play or make someone smile, he will take it and run. He functions as my demo dog and when not working with clients enjoys weight pull, scent work, FastCAT, and someday hopefully soon herding and Rally.
